September 12th, 2004
We received a call around 3:30PM and
were told to wait in our room.  About
4:30PM Madam Yang (the director of our
orphanage), 2 caregivers and Shasha
(our translator) arrive with a knock on the
door.  Madam Yang walks in with Yang Fu
An.  They go directly to Heather, and with
the help of our translator (in the red
blouse) she hands him to her.  They are
very expeditious and there is nothing
ceremonial about the delivery.  After
about 15 minutes everybody settles down.
We are told what to feed him and when.
When I asked for more information about
him, the 2nd translator (Jason) said: "he is
your son now...you will figure it out." This
is the exact moment that reality hit me;
Heather, on the other hand, has been
prepared for a long time.   We signed
some paperwork and they said goodbye.
The entire exchange took less than 30
minutes.  He never once cried.  My sister
Mimi arrived from the U.S. about 15
minutes after the orphanage left.
The pictures on the left are only a
few of the 100 or so we took in the
first hour.  After feeding at 5:15PM,
Travers slept for 2 hours.  We
bathed him without incident, and thus
begins the cycle, "eat, sleep, poop."

He really is a beautiful baby; he looks
just like me. Ha! The most notable
surprise is his size; his feet are huge
and really wide.  And you know what
they say!
Wide feet..... big shoes.
